La Tanya Y. Owens is the Founder and CEO of Teresa’s Place Adult Daycare Center, bringing over 15 years of experience in education as a special education teacher and administrator with Chicago Public Schools. Her professional background includes supporting individuals with complex needs, building individualized support systems, and leading programs rooted in dignity, structure, and care. After resigning from CPS to provide full-time care for her mother, who lives with severe dementia, La Tanya combined her professional expertise with lived caregiving experience to create Teresa’s Place. Her vision is to provide compassionate, high-quality adult day services that support individuals with moderate to severe dementia while empowering caregivers to remain engaged in their work and communities.
Co-Founder/Facilities & Operations
Martese Owens brings over 20 years of experience as a construction company owner and licensed real estate agent, along with more than a decade of hands-on caregiving experience. For the past 11 years, he has played an integral role in caring for a loved one living with severe dementia, gaining deep insight into the daily needs, behaviors, and environmental supports required for safe, compassionate care. At Teresa’s Place Adult Daycare Center, Martese is dedicated to creating secure, thoughtfully designed spaces that accommodate the unique behavioral and mobility needs of individuals with moderate to severe dementia. His approach focuses on safety, adaptability, and dignity — designing environments that emphasize what individuals can do, rather than their limitations.
